FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We encourage questions and take pride in educating our clients on the products that are being used on them.  Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about lash extensions.

WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS?

Lash extensions are semi-permanent individual lashes made from various types of synthetic and or natural components such as mink, silk, and nylon fibers (synthetic mink). We carry all three types ranging in length from 8mm-16mm in 5 different curl types; J, B, C, D, L. Consult with your lash artist to decide which curl type, length, and thickness work best for you. Once selected, the lashes are applied one at a time using a medical-grade, semi-permanent adhesive. After application and with proper maintenance, your new lashes can last up to 4+ weeks.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN CLASSIC, VOLUME, AND HYBRID EXTENSIONS?

Classic lashing is when your artist applies one single extension to each individual natural lash that can handle the weight and thickness of the extension. Usually, this is 80-95% of your natural lashes, and a skilled lash artist will use various extension lengths and thicknesses to achieve this result. If done correctly, each extension is placed right on top of your natural lash, and the connection should appear seamless. This is the most commonly requested set type and is good for those new to lash extensions or those who want a subtle natural look.

Volume or 3D lashing is when anywhere between 2-5 very fine extensions are placed and feathered out on each individual natural lash creating a much more voluminous, dramatic look. It is an advanced technique and takes more time to apply, but it is worth it for those with extremely sparse lashes that cannot achieve the same results as classic lashing or those who crave a glamorous look.

Hybrid lashing combines classic and volume lashing techniques and is perfect for those who want to add a little more drama to their lash line without spending too much time or money to achieve visible results.

Don’t be overwhelmed with all your lash extension options, as your lash artist will help you decide which style, lengths, and curl types are best suited for your individual lash needs and overall wants.

HOW SHOULD EXTENSIONS BE PROPERLY APPLIED?

Often inexperienced lash professionals might apply one synthetic lash to three to four natural lashes, causing clumps or use extremely thick, heavy extensions in which the natural lash cannot handle causing the lash to break or fall out prematurely. A skilled, experienced lash artist will not use too heavy or too long of an extension for your natural lash and will make sure your extensions are applied lash by lash without clumping.

WILL THEY DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?

Each extension should be picked and placed on your individual lash with the intent to not harm your natural lash. With proper care and application by an experienced lash artist, your natural lashes should not be harmed. Timely touch-ups and conscious effort to not pull at or try to remove extensions on your own will also help to ensure that your natural lashes stay healthy during the duration of your extension wear.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE A REACTION?

Although rare, allergic reactions are possible. This may include mild to severe redness or itchiness around the eyes due to a reaction to ingredients in the adhesive and/or eye pads. Most often, these symptoms correct themselves in a matter of a few days. The worst-case scenario is that you need to go to the eye doctor to get specific eye drops to treat an allergic reaction, and no matter how bad the allergic reaction, you will never go blind. To minimize your chances of a reaction, inform your artist of any sensitivities or allergies you are aware of. We use only formaldehyde-free adhesives and carry a sensitive adhesive for those who have had reactions in the past or have sensitive eyes.

HOW OFTEN DO I NEED TO GET TOUCH-UPS?

Depending on your lifestyle and natural lash growth cycle, you should get touch-ups every 2-3 weeks to keep them at their fullest and looking best.  People with naturally oily hair or skin may find that they need to come in sooner than others, as oil can cause the extensions to fall out quicker.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT THROUGHOUT THE WEAR OF MY LASH CYCLE?

Lash extensions can last through a full growth cycle of natural eyelashes, typically between four and six weeks. Since each lash extension is attached to a single eyelash, they will fall out naturally along with the natural growth cycle of each lash. This process does not always happen simultaneously on each eye, so it is not uncommon to lose more lashes on one side than the other. External causes such as frequent, sweaty workouts, excessive steam exposure, and sleeping directly on your lashes may also cause your lashes to shed quicker than usual.

CAN I USE MASCARA?

Mascara is usually not necessary and discouraged. However, you may use mascara to give your eyes a little “pop” as it gets closer to the time of your touch-up. Do NOT use waterproof mascara, and make sure to apply only on the tips lightly.  If you want to use mascara frequently and soon after getting them done, talk to your lash artist to adjust the fullness and thickness of your extensions.

HOW DO I TAKE CARE OF MY NEW LASHES?

It is recommended not to get your extensions wet for the first 12 hours after application; this includes after touch-ups for your adhesive to properly set. Stay away from oil-based products that will weaken the bond of the extensions and cause them to fall out prematurely. This includes makeup removers, heavy, oily eye creams, or face oil used around the eye area.

For those who want to boost their natural lashes and help them grow during extension wear, we recommend using a lash growth serum such as GrandeLASH-MD. Our clients have seen remarkable results with this product, helping to keep their natural lashes strong while using lash extensions.
